"Life is your journey, Goals are your destination and Hard Work is your set of wheels."
One month of school has passed and October is upon us. With students well into the swing of things, October is filled with some exciting events for grade 5/6 students. Ukulele club begins on Thursday, October 5th. It will be an exciting time for students to start learning some great tunes and a new skill. This month, following Thanksgiving, our class will set our sights on creating a Halloween haunted house for Fulham students.

Halloween - Party in the Afternoon
Students will be made aware that "busy work" will not be assigned to be done at home. Students should be able to complete their daily work in the time given in class. However, if a student does not use their time in class effectively, I may ask for the assignment to be completed at home.
For both grade 5 and 6, I will ask for some short assignments to be completed in order to help with the growth of reading and writing. These assignments should not take more than 20 minutes every night and should allow for students to study for tests and quizzes. I understand that our students and families lead busy lives and I do not intend to overwhelm them with homework.
Thursday spelling tests
Grade 5 and 6 students will be assigned weekly spelling words beginning in the second week of September. These spelling words will be given based on the student's assessed spelling level. Spelling tests will be given every Thursday.
Book talk assignments
In order to encourage grade 5 and 6 students to spend time time reading at home, I assign 5 mandatory book talk assignments to be completed throughout the year. Students may complete book talks as often as they please, with extra book talks being rewarded with Class Dojo points. However, the due dates for the each of the 5 book talks is listed below.
